MONROE, La. – Senior Sofia Bjorkman (78-69-75-222) carded a third round 75 to lead the Troy women's golf team en route to a team sixth-place finish after shooting a 306 in Tuesday's final round of the ULM Fred Marx Invitational.
The Trojans completed day one on a high-note after shooting a second-round 292 before falling two spots to sixth to complete their second tournament of the 2012 fall season.
Bjorkman balanced out her scores as she carded a 75 in the final round to finish at six-over par tied for seventh, her second top-10 finish of the young season.
Langley Vannoy (74-74-78-226) improved on her Golfweek Program Challenge finish of 26th to complete Tuesday's round tied for 13th at 10-over par.
Taylor McGraw (78-75-76-229) nearly cut her finishing place in half from the Challenge to this week's tournament after carding scores of 78, 75 and 76 to finish tied for 23rd at 13-over par.
Sara Fennvik (80-74-78-232) entered the tournament with a stroke average of 80, but improved on that number by three to finish tied for 33rd at 16-over par.
Brooke Spinks (78-78-77-233) finished just one stroke behind Fennvik to finish tied for 37th at 17-over par.
"We didn't play as well as we wanted to today, but we improved on a lot of good stuff from the last event," head coach Matt Terry said.
Southern Miss (292-301-301-894) held onto the lead throughout the entire tournament to claim the team title after firing a team score of 894, 30-over par, to edge Sam Houston State (299-297-302-898) by just four strokes.
Lamar's Julie Amie fired under-par scores in all three rounds to claim the individual title after finishing with a two-under, 214 performance.
The Trojans will take a brief break from the course before returning on October 15-16 to compete at the Courtyard Classic in Jacksonville, Fla.
"We've got a couple of weeks until we travel to Jacksonville, so hopefully we can figure some things out and improve on wedge play and hit a little straighter off the tee," Terry said.
