Trojans Within Striking Distance of Defending Tournament Title

MONROE, La. – The Troy women's golf team (308-292-600) carded first and second round scores of 308 and 292 on Monday to open the ULM Fred Marx Invitational tied with Lamar (300-300-600) for fourth.

The Trojans improved by 16 strokes in the second round of action in an attempt to defend their two-straight tournament victories.

Senior Sofia Bjorkman (78-69-147) led Troy over the 36-holes and improved from a first round 78 to a second round 69 to bring her day one total to 147 and a tie for eighth.

Langley Vannoy fired a 74 in each of the first two rounds to finish as the second-highest Trojan in a tie for tenth of the 89 individual golfers.

Taylor McGraw improved her play dating back to the Golfweek Program Challenge to shoot a first round 78 and second round 75 for a total of 153 heading into Tuesday's final round.

Sara Fennvik fired a first round 80, but improved on the final 18 holes of the day to finish tied for 35th at 10-over par entering Tuesday's finale.

Brooke Spinks, after competing in just one event all of last season, made her 2012-2013 debut by carding a 78 in each of the first two rounds to finish the day tied for 45th at 12-over par.

Lamar's Julie Aime and Houston Baptist's Katy Kile both fired a 143 on day one to lead the field at one-under par.

McNeese State (297-296-93) and Southern Miss (292-301-593) carded a 36-hole team total of 593 to finish tied for first
at 17-over par.

Final-round action of the ULM Fred Marx Invitational will begin Tuesday morning at 8:30.
