TROY, Ala. – The Troy University track & field team came together to donate goodie baskets to local policemen and firemen on Sept. 11 for the second straight year. The project was headed by juniors Allison and Morgan Paulson, who are twin sisters from Mobile, Ala.
“We wanted to honor the fallen emergency response teams during the 9-11 World Trade Center attacks,” said Morgan. “We also wanted to give our appreciation to the local heroes who risk their lives every day for us.”
“We first did the project last year and wanted to keep it going,” Allison said. “We began to set it all in motion as 9-11 approached.”
The Paulson's knew that just like last year they could not accomplish this task on their own so asked fellow teammates for help. With more than 80 student-athletes in the program, the other members of the team opened the door to making the twins' plan a reality.
Members of the track and cross country teams donated food, baskets and money to fill the baskets with goodies. The teams created baskets to give to the local law enforcement to show appreciation for their services and protection.
Multiple team members went out on Tuesday, September 11, to all local police and fire stations in Pike County to deliver the baskets. The baskets consisted of goodies such as: water, popcorn, gum, puzzle books and more.
