Trojans Return to Action at UT-Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. – The Troy volleyball team hits the road after a week of rest as they travel to UT-Martin for the two-day First State Skyhawk Invitational.

The Trojans are set to take on UT-Martin on Friday at 7 p.m. Troy will close out their weekend with matches against DePaul and Wright State on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.

Troy (0-3) was set to host Auburn this past Tuesday at Sartain Hall, but the match was postponed and will now be played this upcoming Tuesday, September 4, at 7 p.m. The extra rest will surely benefit the Trojans after a four-match opening weekend.

The Trojans got the 2012 season under way at a tournament hosted by Georgia last weekend. Troy fell to Georgia, Georgia State and Georgia Southern and also took on Slovenia in an exhibition match. The Trojans were plagued by inconsistent play over the opening weekend, but did see glimpses of the play they are capable of.

Troy was led on the weekend by Breanna Cullity who posted 24 kills in 10 sets while hitting .316 to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Courtney Cohen posted 57 digs in 10 sets for the Trojans including a 30-dig effort in Troy's four-set match with Georgia Southern.

UT-Martin (0-3) comes into its home opener after dropping three matches at the Arkansas Invitational last weekend. The Skyhawks fell to the Razorbacks, Kansas and Northwestern State at the two-day event.

Troy is 3-2 all-time against the Skyhawks with the last meeting coming in 2010, a 3-0 sweep by Troy at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn.

DePaul (1-2) hosted the DePaul Invitational last weekend to open their season as they defeated Indiana State in five sets but fell to Butler and Eastern Illinois.

Troy and DePaul have never met on the volleyball court.

Wright State (0-4) opened its season last weekend at the Thunder Invitational hosted by Marshall with losses the Thundering Herd, Miami and IUPUI. The Raiders also dropped a straight-set, home contest to Northern Kentucky during the week.

Troy is 0-1 against Wright State all-time with the lone meeting coming in 1997 in the Trojans' season-opener.
