Troy Men's Golf Earns Top Academic Honor

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday the 2012 Team Academic Awards presented by Farmers Insurance, with the Troy men's golf team receiving the President's Special Recognition Award (3.5 or better GPA).
The Trojans were one of just 12 schools to receive the top honor, with DePaul receiving the honor of the Academic National Champion.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
“I'm really proud of the team for their academic accomplishments and achieving such an outstanding honor such as this,” said head coach Matt Terry.
Troy was the only school in the state of Alabama to receive the award, and the only member of the Sun Belt Conference to be honored with the award.
“I appreciate all the instructors, Matt Mayotte, his staff and Dr. (Fred) Green for all their hard work,” Terry said. “This award isn't just for our team; it's for everyone involved with the team academically and athletically.”
