BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Troy University freshman Ben Martin finished in eighth place in the 100m dash at the USA Junior National Championship held this weekend at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind.
Martin, a native of Northport, Ala., qualified for the finals after posting a time of 10.64 seconds in the second of two preliminary heats. Martin also finished eighth in the finals with a time of 10.92 running into a headwind of -1.8 m/s. The top six finishers qualified for the Junior World Team.
“We are very proud of what Ben accomplished against some of the top athletes in the nation,” Troy head coach Jill Lancaster said. “He had a really solid run and this is a huge confidence builder as he makes plans for his sophomore season.”
Martin finished in second place in the 100m dash at the USA Invitational earlier this season. He won the Alabama 5A 200m championship as a senior at Paul W. Bryant High School.
