Troy Track & Field Opens NCAA East Preliminary Meet Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The quest for an NCAA title for seven Troy Trojans begins Thursday when the NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary gets underway at Hodges Stadium on the campus of North Florida.
The NCAA will hold two preliminary meets this weekend and the top-12 finishers from each event qualify for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 6-9.
Four of the Trojans will be in action on Thursday starting with Martins Pildavs and Mackenzie Howell in the javelin throw at 11 a.m. Pildavs enters with the second-highest seed mark of 75.60 meters that he threw at the South Alabama Invitational on April 12. The native of Murjani, Latvia, enters the NCAA East Preliminary meet with the fifth best mark in the nation. Howell earned the 28th seed with a mark of 65.68 meters.
Eddie Lynn, who finished second at the Sun Belt Championship, will compete in the first flight of the discus throw which gets underway at 1 p.m. Neko Freeman will be the final Trojan in action on Thursday when he takes to the track at 6:30 p.m. in the prelims of the 100m dash. Freeman comes in as the final qualifier in the event, but is coming off a silver medal at the Sun Belt Championships.
Nicola Bolla opens the action on Friday for the Trojans in the hammer throw at 10 a.m. He enters the NCAA East Preliminary meet seeded 11th in the region after finishing second at the Sun Belt Championships. His mark of 63.85 meters at the Troy Coach “O” Invitational is the 18th best in the NCAA this season.
Thaddeus Curtis will run in the first heat of the 110m hurdles on Friday at 5 p.m., while Sun Belt champion Larry Henry will compete in the first flight of the high jump at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
