TROY, Ala. – ULM scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to defeat Troy 4-3 in the finale of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series. The victory helped ULM avoid a sweep in the series after Troy won the first two games, including a 5-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader Saturday. The game was delayed for a total of 44 minutes over two separate delays – before the bottom of the eighth inning and before the start of the 10th inning.
Judd Edwards led off the Warhawk 10th with a double to left-center field and a fielding error on a sac bunt attempt put runners on the corners with nobody out. Chris Dudley lined a double down the line in left field to plate two runs and break a 1-all tie. Following a pair of outs, Caleb Clowers provided what would be the game-winner with a single to center field.
The Trojans (24-27, 12-15 Sun Belt) rallied in the home half of the 10th sending the tying run to the plate with one out. Tyler Hannah drew a one-out walk and Tyler Vaughn doubled down the line in right field to bring Logan Pierce to the plate. The junior first baseman punched a single back up the middle to pull the Trojans within one, 4-3.
ULM closer Wil Browning retired the next two Troy batters to close out the game. Browning (5-3) picked up the win with 2.1 innings out of the bullpen; he allowed two runs on two hits. Cale Wine took a no-decision for the Warhawks (25-26, 12-15) despite allowing just one unearned run on four hits in 7.2 innings.
Ryan Brady gave the Trojans a solid start on the mound as he allowed just one run on three hits over 6.1 innings. Nate Hill recorded the next four outs before handing the ball to Thomas Austin. Austin, who had saves in the first two games of the series, cruised through his first 1.1 innings before running into the trouble in the 10th.
Hannah put the Trojans on the board with a sac fly in the third inning. Jake Harrell was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a ULM fielding error. Clay Holcomb moved him to third on a bunt single to set up Hannah.
Jeremy Sy drew a lead-off walk in the seventh inning and stole second to move into scoring position. A grounder moved him to third and a sac fly from pinch hitter Justin Stawychny tied the game at 1-all.
