TROY, Ala. – Troy travels to Alabama on Tuesday night looking to complete the season sweep of the Crimson Tide. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Swell-Thomas Stadium; Troy defeated Alabama 9-0 back on March 20.
The game will be broadcast live on the Troy IMG Sports Network with local coverage on 94.7 FM and worldwide coverage on TroyTrojans.com or via the Tune-In Radio app on your smartphone by searching for WTBF-FM. Fans can also follow the action on TroyTrojans.com with live stats.
The Trojans enter the final non-conference game of the season following a Sun Belt series victory over ULM; Troy has now won three straight conference series and 10 of its last 11 Sun Belt series at home. The Trojans (24-27) limited ULM to just nine runs and no home runs over the weekend, while combining for 17 runs and three homers of their own.
Danny Collins, who hit a three-run homer on Friday against the Warhawks, hit a two-run home run in the first meeting against Alabama (18-33). Logan Pierce was 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Chase Mathis was 2-for-4 with two RBIs against the Crimson Tide. A trio of Trojan pitchers limited the Crimson Tide to just four singles in the game.
Pierce leads the Trojans on the season batting at a .360 clip with 15 doubles, five home runs and 43 RBIs. Collins leads Troy with 16 doubles and 11 home runs, while ranking second in the Sun Belt with 29 extra-base hits.
Alabama will send freshman southpaw Taylor Guilbeau (3-2, 5.79) to the mound while Troy has not yet announced a starting pitcher.
The game with the Crimson Tide precedes a three-game series for Troy against South Alabama beginning Thursday at Riddle-Pace Field. The Trojans need to win the series to guarantee a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament next week in Bowling Green, Ky. However, the league standings are so tight that Troy could see itself finish in a tie for third place depending on the weekend's results.
