Trojans Set to Host Tuesday Doubleheader

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team returns home to host Kennesaw State on Tuesday. The Trojans and Owls are slated to play a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The Trojans (23-14) come into the contests after losing two of three at WKU last weekend. Troy pounded out 13 hits and defeated the Lady Toppers, 9-1, in game one of Friday's doubleheader, but they only managed two more hits on the weekend as they dropped the series.
Troy is led in the circle by true freshman Ashley Rainey who, despite giving up just four runs over 19.0 innings last week, was the victim of some slow offensive days for the Trojans and went just 1-2 last week. Rainey enters Tuesday with a 12-7 record and a team-best 2.61 ERA. Over her last nine appearances (53.2 innings) she has walked just four batters.
Offensively, Sarah Shields leads the Trojans with a .351 batting average while Nikki Hollett enters Tuesday's twin bill with a three-game hitting streak a team-best 24 RBI. Hollett and fellow senior Hayden Gann lead Troy with six home runs each.
Kennesaw State (22-19) comes into the contests after posting a 3-1 mark in A-Sun play last weekend. The Owls swept a doubleheader at home from North Florida and split a twin bill with Jacksonville. The showing pushed the Owls to 7-3 in A-Sun play, the best mark in the league.
The Owls are led by ace Amanda Henderson who is near the top of the nation with 150 strikeouts in 104.1 innings of work. Her 10-6 record and 2.08 ERA lead a staff that enters with a 2.70 overall ERA.
After Tuesday's games, the Trojans return to the road as they travel to Florida. Troy will play a single game at Florida A&M on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. before traveling to Boca Raton, Fla., for a three-game Sun Belt set at Florida Atlantic on Saturday and Sunday.
