TROY, Ala. – With the Sun Belt Conference Championship only a week away, the Troy women's golf team will look to gain some needed momentum at Monday's Samford Women's Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,457-yard Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala.
The Trojans were last on the course at the UALR Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Ark. where they came away with a tenth place finish. Haley Lawrence enters play as the highest ranked Trojan in the Sun Belt in 11th place with a 76.05 average score.
The tournament field will consist of 10 teams, including one ranked in the top-100, as well as three Sun Belt teams. No. 80 Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Louisiana-Monroe, Florida Southern, Jacksonville State, Newberry, host Samford, Tennessee Tech, Troy and UAB make up the field.
Samford claimed last year's team title with a three round score of 907, and Troy's Liz Balkcom garnered the individual championship with a 219.
Troy will travel with seniors Haley Lawrence and Sofia Bjorkman, Langley Vannoy, Sydney Conrad and Taylor McGraw. Sara Fennvik will also travel, but will compete as an individual.
"I'm feeling good and I am really excited,” Lawrence said. “This tournament is going to give us a competitive edge before we go into conference play.”
Teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. Be sure to follow @TroyTrojansGolf on Twitter and check back with www.troytrojans.com for a full recap of both days of action.
"The girls have been practicing and getting ready for conference play,” head coach Matt Terry said. “Limestone Springs is one of my favorite courses. It is a great introduction for the conference tournament because of the bent grass greens on both courses. I look forward to letting the girls get warmed up for on these greens for conference play.”
