TROY, Ala. – The Troy track & field team continues its season this Saturday as the Trojans host the 2012 Coach “O” Invitational at the Jesse H. Colley track on Troy University's campus.
“Recently named in the first class of Hall of Famers at Troy, Charles Oliver, known as Coach “O” to everyone in the world of track & field, is once again sponsoring the 12th Annual Coach “O” Invitational,” head coach Jill Lancaster said.
Charles Oliver, better known as Coach “O,” is not only an avid supporter of Troy athletics, but also a former All-American and record holder in the 400-meters.
The Trojans will be hosting 12 teams: Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Albany State, Auburn, Clayton State, Columbus State, Concordia College, Huntingdon College, Middle Tennessee State, Samford, Tuskegee and South Alabama. There will also be numerous post-collegiate clubs competing.
“Athletically our team comes to perform and defend our space with pride in “our house” as we call it,” Lancaster said. “Physically not having to travel and sleep in your own bed is a great environment to produce quality performances.”
The Trojans are coming off a week of season bests and school records set at the War Eagle Invitational and the Coach “O” Invitational will be the Trojans last regular season meet in preparation for the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
“We look forward to seeing everyone at the meet to show Troy Trojan support!” Lancaster said.
The meet will begin with field events at 10 a.m. with the men's pole vault, women's high jump, and women's hammer throw. The running events will begin at 11:20 a.m. with the women's 3000-meter steeplechase. There will be a rolling schedule throughout the day, to conclude with the men's 4x400 meter relay at 4:55 p.m.
Full results of the meet will be available on TroyTrojans.com immediately following the meet.
