Trojans Host North Texas in Final Home Games

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team returns home this weekend to host North Texas in the final three-games of the 2012 season at the Troy Softball Complex. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and concludes with a single game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Sunday's game will also mark Senior Day as the Trojans' honor five outgoing seniors in Sarah Shields, Nikki Hollett, Hayden Gann, Sarah Harris and Michelle Hewett.
The Trojans (31-17, 10-9) enter the series sitting in fourth place in the Sun Belt standings, just two games behind FIU for third and three behind South Alabama for second place. The Panthers and Jaguars play a three game series in Mobile this weekend.
Troy is coming off of a tough loss at No.4 Alabama on Wednesday night, but the Trojans have won their last five home games, including a three-game sweep of Sun Belt rival Middle Tennessee last weekend. The Trojans pounded out 39 hits in that series, including 19 on Sunday, the most by a Sun Belt team this season.
The Mean Green (20-24-1, 10-10-1) come into the series in a tied for fifth place in the Sun Belt standings with WKU thanks to a series loss to South Alabama at home last weekend. North Texas, who didn't qualify for last season's conference tournament, is locked into this year's field as this weekend's series marks their last conference action of the season.
After closing their home slate this weekend, the Trojans travel to South Alabama next Saturday, May 5, for a doubleheader that will mark the end of the regular season for both teams. The Trojans will then make the trip to Boca Raton, Fla., for this year's Sun Belt Conference Championships which begin on Wednesday, May 9.
