Trojans Invited to Prestigious Blue Gray Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team has accepted an invitation to join the field in next year's prestigious Blue Gray National Tennis Classic head coach Eric Hayes announced on Tuesday.
“We are very happy to be invited into the Blue Gray field,” said Hayes. “This is one of the most prestigious college events in the country.
“I want to thank Paul Winn and everyone associated with Blue Gray for the invitation. It is really important to get our Troy fans in Montgomery to come out and support the team for this first class event.”
The Blue Gray National Tennis Classic is an annual event held each spring with some of the top collegiate tennis teams in the nation. Next year's event will be held March 15-17, 2013 at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center and O'Connor Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala.
The 2012 field on the men's side featured eight teams, seven of which are currently ranked in the ITA national rankings. Mississippi State, currently the ninth ranked team in the nation, won last year's event over a field that also featured Alabama, Auburn, Boise State, Clemson, Cornell, Tennessee and Texas Tech.
The Trojans return their entire team next season, including Texas Tech transfer Andre Stabile who redshirted last season. Stabile will make an immediate impact on a team that will have just one senior next season in Anas Rouchdi.
The Classic has been held in Montgomery every year since 1949 when it began as an individual tournament. The current team format was adopted in 1984 and has stuck ever since.
The Blue Gray National Tennis Classic is a nationally prominent tournament that has been featured numerous times on the Tennis Channel.
