Softball Set for Tuesday Contest at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Troy softball team returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to take on in-state rival UAB. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. at the UAB Softball Field.

The Trojans (22-11) are coming off of an eight-game homestand in which they went 4-4. The Trojans opened the homestand with wins over No.21 Auburn and No.8 Louisiana-Lafayette before closing it with a series win over FIU last weekend.

Troy goes to Birmingham hitting .271 as team and scoring 5.3 runs per game. Sarah Shields leads the Trojans with a .345 batting average while Nikki Hollett and Hayden Gann are tied for the team lead with five home runs each.

In the circle, Troy enters with a 3.06 team ERA, led by Ashley Rainey's 2.80 mark. Jaycee Affeldt comes into Tuesday's match-up as the reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week thanks to a 0.64 ERA in 11.0 innings of work against FIU last weekend.

The true freshman also hit her first career home run, a grand slam, against FIU on Sunday in Troy's 6-1 series-clinching win.

UAB (20-13) comes into the contest after losing two of three at home to Houston this past weekend. Prior to the two losses to the Cougars, the Blazers were the only Conference USA team remaining without a loss in league play.

The Trojans will return to Sun Belt action this weekend when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. The three-game set between Troy and WKU will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and conclude with a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
