Pair of Trojans Earn All-Sun Belt Honors

DENTON, Texas – On the eve of the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships, two Trojans have been recognized by the league as All-Sun Belt performers.
Karoline Grymel was one of six singles players named to the All-Sun Belt team while Grymel and doubles partner Lyubov Dorofeeva were one of three doubles teams honored by the league.
Grymel, a native of Hamburg, Germany, posted a 12-7 mark in singles play on the year, with three of the seven losses coming to nationally ranked players. In fact, before falling to Kseniya Bardabush of top-seeded North Texas in the Trojans regular season finale, Grymel had won eight straight singles matches and nine of 10.
The junior combined with Dorofeeva, a sophomore, on the doubles court to put up some even more impressive numbers. The duo went 12-4 on the season, including spending time ranked as the 89th best pairing in the nation by the ITA.
Before dropping two matches in the final week of the season, the pair found themselves within the ITA's elite ranking with an 11-2 record. Their first loss of the season came to Sofie Oyen and Allie Will of Florida, the No.1 doubles team in the nation.
Grymel, Dorofeeva and the Trojans open up play at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Thursday as the No.7 Trojans take on No.10 UALR at 8:00 a.m. The winner will move on to face No.2 FIU in the quarterfinals on Friday.
