TROY, Ala. – After a 3-1 road trip to Florida last weekend, the Troy softball team returns home this week for four contests, beginning with a Thursday afternoon game against No.22 Florida State.
First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday. The game has been moved to accommodate Florida State's makeup game at LSU on Wednesday. Admission to games at the Troy Softball Complex is FREE. Live stats and live video will be available through TroyTrojans.com.
The Trojans (27-16) took two of three from Florida Atlantic last weekend and have enjoyed a rejuvenated offense as of late. In fact, in four of their six games last week, the Trojans posted at least 10 hits as they saw their team batting average rise from .265 to .271.
The biggest individual improvement came from Sarah Harris. The senior entered the week hitting .250, but thanks to a 6-for-11 showing over the week, now sits at .302. Harris did most of her damage in Troy's series win at Florida Atlantic as she went 5-for-9 against the Owls, including 5-for-6 on Saturday.
In the circle, Ashley Rainey and Jaycee Affeldt have emerged from a young pitching staff to help lead the Trojans. Rainey (14-8) leads the Sun Belt in innings pitched and leads the Trojans with a 2.53 ERA while Affeldt has seen her numbers rise as of late.
The freshman Canadian has given up just two earned runs over her last 16.0 innings, dropping her ERA from 3.78 at the beginning of last week to 3.27 currently.
Florida State (38-10) is coming off a series win at home over Georgia Tech, but they will travel to LSU before making the Troy on Thursday.
The Seminoles entered the week ninth in the country with a 1.44 team ERA, led by Lacey Waldrop's 1.38 mark. Offensively, FSU is loaded with speed, led by Tiffani Brown whose 36 stolen bases are seventh in the nation.
