ATHENS, Ga. – Troy Trojans finish well at the Bulldog Heptathlon taking first place victories and setting multiple personal bests.
Christina Barrett and Veronica Bryant placed third and fifth, respectively, overall in the heptathlon. Barrett, who was competing in her first heptathlon as a Trojan, improved her personal best by 374 points with a total of 5001 points moving her to second all-time at Troy and second in the Sun Belt. Bryant also set a personal best in her first heptathlon of the season with a total of 4664 points moving her to third all-time at Troy and fourth in the Sun Belt.
“Both of these athletes capitalized on the invitation to compete in a field of elite athletes, which included previous NCAA qualifiers,” head coach Jill Lancaster said. “Day two had its challenges, but their ability to take the challenges and still produce such high marks speaks volumes about the desire and patience.”
Barrett placed first in the women's shot put with a distance of 12.41 meters, and Bryant placed fifth with a distance of 10.99 meters. Barrett and Bryant tied for first place in the high jump with a distance of 1.68 meters.
“They are continuing to overcome challenges this season,” Lancaster said. “I feel we can address any issues between now and the Sun Belt Conference Championships.”
The Trojans will be headed back to Auburn for the second time this season this coming weekend for the Auburn Invitational April 20 and 21.
