Trojans Fall to No.54 GSU in Regular Season Finale

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team closed its regular season at home on Saturday with a loss to No.54 Georgia State, 6-1, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The Trojans (5-17) took the first doubles match at number one as Sami Ghorbel and Mansingh Athare won 8-5. After the Panthers took the doubles match at number two, 8-6, the Trojans had their chances to win the point at number three.

Although Anas Rouchdi and Patrick Eichler fell 8-5 to give GSU the first point, the duo had chances with nine break points, but the Panthers took the vital doubles point.

Troy quickly fell behind in singles play as the Panthers (19-4) took matches at numbers three and six to take a 3-0 lead. Georgia State clinched the contest with a win at number five and took a 6-0 lead with wins at numbers four and one.

Ghorbel completed a good day with a win at number two for Troy to go with his doubles win earlier in the day. Ghorbel defeated Victor Valente, 7-6, 7-6, to help the Trojans avoid being shutout.

With their regular season in the books, the Trojans now look to next week's Sun Belt Conference Championships which begin on Thursday in Denton, Texas.
