TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Troy softball team hits the road this weekend for four contests in the state of Florida, beginning with a single non-conference contest at Florida A&M on Thursday afternoon. Troy will then travel to Florida Atlantic for a three-game Sun Belt series on Saturday and Sunday.
The Trojans game with the Lady Rattlers on Thursday will begin at 2:00 p.m. CST. Troy's series at Florida Atlantic begins with a doubleheader at 5:00 p.m. CST on Saturday and concludes with a single game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. CST.
The Trojans (24-15, 5-8) enter the road swing after splitting a doubleheader with Kennesaw State on Tuesday at home. For the third straight game, the Trojans were shutout as they fell to the Owls in game one, 1-0.
However, they responded with an eight-run outburst in game two as they knocked off the Owls in mercy-rule fashion, 8-0, in six innings.
The Trojans continued to get good efforts from a young pitching staff as Jaycee Affeldt threw her first career complete-game shutout in game two of the doubleheader.
Ashley Rainey was just as effective in game one, giving up just four hits over a complete game, but she was the victim of one unearned run and was shouldered with a tough loss.
Florida A&M (16-25) is coming into Thursday's game after a tough 5-3 loss at Florida State on Tuesday. The Lady Rattlers are scheduled to play at Jacksonville on Wednesday night before returning home to host the Trojans.
Florida Atlantic (12-27, 2-8) comes into the weekend after losing two of three at North Texas last weekend. The Owls took game one in extra innings, but were run-ruled in the remaining two games.
