TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Troy men's golf team is in 11th place at eight-over par after they began action this morning at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State University.
The Trojans, who were in competition just three days ago, carded a team score of 292 at the par-71 Southwood Golf Club.
Freshman Jake Tucker is leading the Trojans at one-under par and tied for 13th after an opening round score of 70. Tucker began play in the back nine alternating between birdies and bogeys and finished at even. He then opened the front nine with two birdies, but carded a bogey on the eighth hole to put him at one-under at the end of the day. Head Coach Matt Terry praised the scores put up by Tucker.
“I am proud of Jake,” said Terry. “He bounced back from the last tournament, the South Florida Invitational.”
Freshman Tolver Dozier finished the day at one-over par tied for 30th. Dozier opened play on the back nine recording a birdie and a bogey, but his double-bogey on the fourth hole hurt his score which allowed him to finish the day with a 72.
Senior Ricky Casko completed his day tied for 52nd with a first round score of 74. Casko opened the round on the back nine with a birdie, but then recorded four bogeys that put him at three-over par at the turn. He began his last nine holes with an eagle on the first hole, but bogeys on holes two and three brought his score back up to three-over par to end the day.
Sophomore Kyle Thommesen opened his round of play with five bogeys in the back nine and one in the front nine, but did record a birdie on hole 6 to place him T72 at five-over.
Freshmen Will Garner and Wil Clowdus finished their first round T86 and 95th, respectively.
Troy will continue play at the Southwood Golf Club tomorrow with the second round. Will Garner will be the first of the Trojans to tee off, beginning at 7:41 a.m.
“What we need to do is to continue to get better and we do that by going out there tomorrow and playing well, like we have shown in past events,” said Terry.
