TROY, Ala. – After opening the Sun Belt Conference schedule with six straight road games, Troy returns to Riddle-Pace Field this weekend for a three-game conference series against Arkansas State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday; Saturday's contest will be televised live on the Sun Belt Network and ESPN3.
All three games will be broadcast live on the Troy IMG Sports Network with local coverage on 94.7 FM and worldwide coverage on TroyTrojans.com or via the Tune-In Radio app on your smartphone by searching for WTBF-FM. Fans can also follow the action on TroyTrojans.com with live stats and live video.
The Trojans (12-12, 2-4 Sun Belt) enter the series after splitting a pair of mid-week road games as they won 9-1 at Jacksonville State on Tuesday and lost 4-2 at Alabama State on Wednesday. The Red Wolves (15-10, 5-1), who enter the weekend tied for the Sun Belt lead, have won seven of their last nine following a pair of mid-week victories over Southeast Missouri (10-5) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-2).
Tyler Ray (2-2, 3.27) will start on the mound for the Trojans on Friday night while the Red Wolves will counter with right-hander Jacob Lee (3-1, 3.47). Saturday's matchup will feature a pair of junior right-handers as Ryan Brady (0-2, 3.52) will get the call for Troy and Daniel Wright (1-2, 3.41) will go for Arkansas State. Neither team has announced a Sunday starter.
Logan Pierce, Tyler Hannah, Danny Collins and Boone Shear have been the consistent figures in the Troy lineup this season. The four have started all 24 of Troy's games this season and have accounted for 55 percent of the Trojans base hits.
Pierce carries a 14-game hit streak into the weekend and has reached base safely in all but one game this season. The junior first baseman, who has multiple hits in nine of the 14 games, is batting .472 with 10 RBIs during the streak. Pierce, who is batting .375 on the season, leads the Sun Belt with a .504 on-base percentage and is second in runs scored and third in walks.
Shear entered the week 14th in the NCAA in RBIs and has already added two more to his total this week. The senior outfielder is second in the Sun Belt with his 32 RBIs and is fifth in both home runs and runs scored. Hannah enters the weekend series with hits in 15 of his last 18 games and is batting at a .330 clip on the season. The senior shortstop is sixth in the league with a .466 on-base percentage and has reached base safely in 38 of the last 39 games. Collins leads the Trojans with 14 extra-base hits and leads the Sun Belt with nine doubles. The sophomore third baseman is batting .306 on the season with four homers and 20 RBIs.
The Trojans have stepped up their play defensively over the past 13 games as they have turned in a .973 fielding percentage as a team; that mark would lead the Sun Belt as a season total.
Arkansas State won two-of-three at Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend after sweeping UALR at home to open conference play.
Claude Johnson leads the Red Wolves at the plate batting .358 with six doubles and a .456 on-base percentage, while Michael Faulkner entered the week second in the NCAA with 19 stolen bases (now 20-for-20). Arkansas State enters the weekend fourth in the Sun Belt with a .276 team batting average and 4.14 ERA and is third with a .971 fielding percentage.
