TROY, Ala. – After taking down no. 21 Auburn, Wednesday night, the Troy softball team takes on another highly-ranked opponent this weekend as the no. 8 Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns visit the Troy Softball Complex for a three-game series.
Troy (19-7, 1-2) is 3-20 all-time against the Cajuns and the three-game set this Saturday and Sunday is a part of a season-long eight-game homestand for the Trojans.
On Wednesday night, Troy exploded for seven runs and 12 hits against in-state foe Auburn, to give the Trojans their second victory over an SEC opponent this season. Troy also defeated Ole Miss, 5-1, at the Red and Blue Classic in Oxford, Miss. on March 2.
Troy's Ashley Rainey slowed down the Auburn offense, as the freshman picked up her ninth win of the season by allowing just a run and four hits in the complete game victory.
The Cajuns (28-0, 3-0) enter this weekend's series with one of the most high-powered offenses in the nation. As a team, Louisiana-Lafayette carries a .365 batting average. The Cajuns lead the Sun Belt and enter the series eighth in the country in home runs per game.
Christi Orgeron's 11 home runs lead the team, while the senior's 55 RBIs are the most any player in the nation. The outfielder picked up five RBIs yesterday, in the Cajuns' doubleheader sweep of Georgia Tech, to become the ULL and Sun Belt all-time leader in runs batted in.
Saturday's doubleheader between the Trojans and Cajuns begins at 1:00 p.m. while Sunday's single game also begins at 1:00 p.m.
