Trojans Take Sun Belt Field Atheletes of the Week

Martins Pildavs and Lizzie Clough named SBC Athletes of the Week.

TROY, Ala. – Troy Trojans Martins Pildavs and Lizzie Clough have been named Sun Belt Conference Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, as the league office announced the outdoor track & field honors on Wednesday.
“Both of these athletes are very hard workers and students deserving of this award,” Coach Jill Lancaster said.
Pildavs, a senior from Murjani, Latvia, ranks 2nd in the nation in javelin, 1st in the East and 1st in the SBC. His toss of 73.73 meters beat the previous school record he held. His six throws were all above 69 meters at the Louisiana Classics. He also placed 10th in the hammer throw, ranking him 13th overall in the SBC.
Clough, a sophomore from Mobile, Ala., beat her previous school record with a third place finish in the javelin (46.87 m) at the Louisiana Classics. Clough now ranks 12th nationally, 5th in the East and 1st overall in the SBC. She is a dual sport athlete who also plays volleyball.
“We are fortunate to have a great volunteer coach in Bob Lambert, who previously headed this program for many years,” Lancaster said. “He has brought both of these athletes to an elite level.”
Both Trojans expect to make high marks throughout the remainder of the season. The Trojans will be heading to the Georgia Relays for competition on Friday and Saturday.
