TROY, Ala. – For the first time in over a month, the Troy softball team returns to the Troy Softball Complex, Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m., to face the no. 21 Auburn Tigers.
After jumping out to a program-best 16-2 start, Troy has dropped five of its last seven games and the midweek matchup against Auburn (23-6) starts a season-long eight-game homestand for the Trojans. Troy (18-7) is 2-1 this season at home and played its last home game 30 days ago, against Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 19.
Troy dropped its first series in Sun Belt play to the ULM Warhawks last week as the Trojans won the first game of the doubleheader last Wednesday, but dropped the final two games of the series.
While the Trojans are looking to snap a two-game losing streak, head coach Melanie Davis's squad is also trying to end a three-game losing streak to Auburn.
Like the Trojans, Auburn started SEC play last week playing losing two series on the road to LSU and 11th-ranked Georgia. The Tigers split a doubleheader with LSU last Wednesday in Baton Rouge, while defeating the Bulldogs in the first game of a doubleheader, Saturday, before losing the final two games in Athens.
The Trojans are 1-2 this season against teams from the SEC. Troy knocked off Ole Miss, 5-1, at the Red and Blue Classic for the Trojans first win over an SEC team since 2010.
Troy is 5-12 all-time against Auburn, with the Trojans last defeating the Tigers, 3-0, on the road in 2008. Auburn took the last year's meeting at the Hibbett/Easton All-Alabama Classic in Birmingham, Ala.
Subscribers to Troy Trojans All-Access can watch or listen to the game beginning at 5:45 p.m. For live in-game updates check with TroyTrojans.com or follow the Trojans on Twitter, @TroySBall.
