Troy Knocks off UALR at Home

TROY, Ala. - The Troy women's tennis team continued to play well, defeating UALR on Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, 6-1. Troy has now won six of its last eight matches.
“Our confidence is evident by the way we are competing,” said head coach Eric Hayes. “This is a great way to start conference play.”
The match for the first against a Sun Belt foe for the Trojans (6-6) as they defeated UALR (10-10) who was coming off of a win at North Alabama on Saturday.
Troy came out strong in doubles play, as the number three team of Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega defeated Nina Yates and Alina Kolegova, 8-2. Next off the court was the number one team of Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva, with an 8-5 victory over Viktoriya Plyuta and Yana Kakovkina, clinching the doubles point for Troy.
UALR earned one victory over Troy at number two doubles, as Micheala McShane and Veronique Luksich defeated Samya El Hsissen and Candela Munoz Giron 8-6.
With confidence, the Trojans quickly earned the remaining points needed to seal the match.
Grymel was the first to finish as she defeated Plyuta, 6-1, 6-0, at number one singles.
Next off the court was Ramirez-Vega at number six singles, as she easily claimed the win over Kolegova 6-2, 6-0. With only one point needed to clinch the match, Troy continued its charge, this time at number five singles with El Hsissen defeating Yates, 6-2, 6-2.
Continuing the roll for Troy, Dhaoui fought hard for victory over Kakovkina, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), at number three. However, UALR's Luksich clinched the only win of the day over Troy's Dorofeeva, 6-2, 6-2, at number two.
Troy's Munoz had the hardest match of the day, as she battled McShane for a three-set victory at number four, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
The Trojans will return to the court on Wednesday when they host Jacksonville State in a match scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
