Clemson Takes Lead, Trojans Drop to Eighth

GREENVILLE, S.C. – No. 13 Clemson carded a tournament-high 276 and the University of Michigan's Matt Thompson shot a five-under to take the lead after the second round of the 43rd Annual Furman Intercollegiate.
Clemson (290-276-566), the highest ranked team in the field of 21, rebounded today to take a six-stroke lead after shooting a team score of 290 in yesterday's first round. Troy, who led by two strokes after yesterday's first round, fell to eighth place after shooting a team score of 295.
Senior Ricky Casko (70-74-144) fell from seventh to tied for 21st after shooting a second round score of 74. The Cartersville, Ga. native began play on the back nine and carded four bogeys, but then rebounded on the last nine holes to salvage a two-over par 74.
Freshman Tolver Dozier (72-72-144) was the most consistent of the Trojans as he shot an even-par 72 to improve his standing from tied for 23rd to a tie for 21st. Dozier carded two birdies to enter the 14th hole at two-under, but then committed two bogeys to make the turn at even-par. The Dothan, Ala. native then carded both a birdie and bogey to end the day at even-par.
Wil Clowdus (73-73-146) and Jake Tucker (71-76-147) both dropped in the leader board after today's round. Clowdus shot a one-over par 73 and sits tied for 41st, and Tucker dropped from 11th to tied for 50th after shooting a four-over par 76.
Sophomore Kyle Thommesen (74-78-152) rounded out the Trojans on the leader board tied for 80th after shooting a second-round 78.
"I want to see the men's team reach their expectations,” Head Coach Matt Terry said. “They have worked hard and today was not their best, but we have a chance to go out tomorrow and play."
