CLEMSON, S.C. – The Troy women's tennis team opened up the Clemson Indoor Winter Classic on Friday, taking to the courts in South Carolina in both doubles and singles action.
The Trojans took on Charleston Southern in their doubles flight on Friday before taking on the host Clemson Tigers in a singles flight.
Troy opened up the day on a good note as the Trojans' number one doubles team of Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva took out CSU's team of Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic, 8-5.
However, the Trojans fell at number two and number three doubles to the Bucs before entering singles play against the 15th-ranked Tigers.
Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega competed at number two doubles for Troy while Candela Munoz Giron and Samya El Hsissen took the number three place.
The Trojans were unable to break through against nationally-ranked Clemson in singles action as they fell at all six positions. As has become a theme early this season, the Trojans took on some ranked competition at the top of the Tigers lineup.
For the fourth time this season, Grymel found herself matched against a ranked opponent at the number one singles spot as she fell to Clemson's Keri Wong, the 65th-ranked player in the nation, 6-3, 6-3.
Dorofeeva and Dhaoui also fell to ranked opponents in the second and third spots in the lineup, respectively. Dorofeeva fell to Clemson's Klara Vyskocilova, the 58th-ranked player in the nation, 6-2, 6-0, while Dhaoui fell to No. 67 Nelly Ciolkowski, 6-1, 6-2.
The Trojans return to the courts in Clemson on Saturday when they take on Armstrong Atlantic in both the doubles and singles flights. The event concluded on Sunday.
