TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's golf team opens their spring season on Monday at the University of South Alabama's Lady Jaguar Invitational at the par-72 Azalea City Golf Club in Mobile, Ala.
The Lady Jaguar Invitational will pit the Trojans against 13 other teams, three of which are conference rivals – ULM, Western Kentucky and host South Alabama.
“I know we are ready to get started. I am ready to get the team on the road and get going,” Troy head coach Matt Terry said. “This may be the first tournament of the spring, but it is the fifth tournament of the season for us. We will be continuing the growth from our fourth tournament of the fall.”
Six Trojans will compete at the Lady Jaguar Invitational; Haley Lawrence, Sofia Bjorkman, Taylor McGraw, Sydney Conrad, Langley Vannoy and Kayln Hudson. This will be Hudson's first career collegiate event and she will be competing as an individual.
“I am excited because Azalea City is a course that I have played numerous times before,” Hudson said. “I am planning on playing hard, plus I will be soaking up the experience. I have been working hard throughout the fall and winter break and now it is time to play, that's what I need to do, relax, have fun and play.”
“I am excited too. I have played this course several times before so I know what the course will be like,” Vannoy said. “I got new clubs over the break and I am striking the ball a lot better now. I found myself feeling more confidence in my putter since we have got back and started qualifying.”
The Trojans will play 36 holes on Monday and then wrap up the invitational with 18 holes on Tuesday.
