Troy Opens Strong on the First Day of the Sun Belt Indoor Championships

Murfreesboro, Tenn. – The Troy women's track & field team set multiple personal bests and all-time records on the first day at the Sun Belt Indoor Championship.
“We're very pleased with the way we competed today,” Coach Jill Lancaster said. “They came out and competed above what they were ranked with many not expected to make the finals.”
Jasmine Patton and Adria Hill both set personal bests and all-time records in the 55-meter hurdles. Patton cut her best time from 8.26 seconds to 8.01 seconds moving to third all-time at Troy and qualifying for finals. Hill improved her best time from 8.66 seconds to 8.30 seconds moving to seventh all-time.
“They competed very hard today,” said Lancaster. “We had many people qualify for finals.”
Christina Barrett finished seventh in the pentathlon scoring 3394 points moving to the third all-time at Troy.
Ja-Courtney Alexander and Candice Vaughn both advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash. Alexander placed fifth with a time of 57.73 seconds. Vaughn placed ninth with a time of 58.17 seconds.
Nicole Studstill placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 13.03 meters, moving into first for this indoor season's performance list and fourth all-time at Troy.
Freshman Mychea Williams placed ninth in the 55-meters with a time of 7.19 seconds to qualify for the finals.
Alexus Cobb set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 5.51 meters moving up in the all-time ranks as well.
Veronica Bryant placed eighth in the high jump with a distance of 1.62 meters.
Hayley Watts and Nura Hussein tied in the pole vault placing 11th with a distance of 2.95 meters.
The second day of the Sun Belt Indoor Championships begins at 9:00 a.m. with the triple jump. The 4x400m relay is scheduled to close out the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships at 5:50 p.m.
