Trojans Set to Travel to Chattanooga for Frost Classic

Troy, Ala. - The Troy softball team is set to return to action this weekend, as the Trojans travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the Frost Classic Inspired by Memorial.
Troy (7-1) is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Quality Inn Classic. The Trojans lost the first game to 11th-ranked Missouri, 4-0, but won their final two games by defeating Ball State, 7-4 in nine innings, and knocking off eventual tournament champion Eastern Kentucky, 5-4.
This weekend, Troy will play five games against five different opponents. Friday, the Trojans will face the Ball State Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. and then take on the East Tennessee State Buccaneers at 1:15 p.m.
Saturday, the Trojans will play another doubleheader. At 1:15 p.m., Troy will face the Cleveland State Vikings and at 3:30 p.m. the Trojans take on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.
Troy faces the Purdue Boilermakers for the first time in school history. Purdue enters the Frost Classic undefeated after the Boilermakers defeated four opponents at the New Mexico Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Troy is led offensively by a veteran group of hitters, including senior first baseman Hayden Gann who leads the Trojans with a .450 batting average and a Sun Belt best four doubles. Gann is also tops on the team with a .621 on-base percentage and a .950 slugging percentage.
Junior catcher Hannah Renn leads the Trojans with three home runs while freshman Ashley Rainey leads Troy with nine RBI.
Freshman Sarah Thomas earned All-Tournament honors at the Quality Inn Classic after pitching 6.2 shutout innings on Sunday. The St. Albert, Alberta native threw 6.2 innings in relief against Ball State in Troy's nine-inning victory, including not allowing a runner to third base in two innings of international tiebreaker softball.

- Troy returns to the diamond for the first time in a week as the Trojans travel to the Frost Classic Inspired by Memorial, hosted by Chattanooga.
- Last weekend, the Trojans hosted the Quality Inn Classic and finished 2-1. Troy fell to Missouri, 4-0, but defeated Ball State, 7-4, in ten innings, and knocked off tournament champion Eastern Kentucky, 5-4.
- The Trojans started the seasons with a perfect 5-0 finish as the captured the tournament title at the 10-team Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic.
- After being named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, freshman Ashley Rainey made her impact at the plate last weekend, belting a three-run walk off home run to give Troy a 7-4 win against Ball State.
- Freshman pitcher Sarah Thomas has not allowed a run in any of her four appearances this season. Thomas is 2-0 with one save and sports a 0.00 ERA. The St. Albert, Alberta, Canada native has only allowed four hits, while striking out ten batters in 13.2 innings in the circle.
- So far, Troy is taking pressure off the young pitching staff by scoring runs early and often. Troy scored 51 runs total on the through two weekends of play, while hitting 11 home runs, so far.
