Trojans First Day at the Vulcan Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The Troy track & field team finished day one at the Vulcan Invitational with many strong performances to lead in to day two at the Birmingham Crossplex.
“The day started off strong and we had some great finishes with many personal best set,” coach Jill Lancaster said.
Freshman Mychea Williams set a personal best in the 60-meters dash placing eighth in the preliminaries to qualify for finals with a time of 7.71 and moving to fourth on the Troy all-time list.
Morgan Paulson set a personal best in the 5000-meter run placing fourth with a time of 18:40.74 and moves to second in the all-time rankings.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Jasmine Patton and Adria Hill moved up all-time ranks at Troy during the preliminaries. Patton moved to sixth with her finish in 9.05 seconds. Hill moved to eighth with her finish in 9.18 seconds.
“The throwers kicked off the day with impressive improvements,” coach Lancaster said.
Nicole Studstill moved to fifth all-time in the shot put placing tenth with a distance of 12.71 meters. Wyatt and Forsythe finished 17th and 20th, respectively, with a distance of 11.79 meters and 11.53 meters.
Alexus Cobbs saw her first competition in the long jump this season placing 19th out of 44 with a distance of 5.33 meters.
“Cobbs is showing promising technique in the long jump,” coach Lancaster said.
Christina Barrett moved to tenth all-time in the high jump tying Mychea Williams and April Irving with a distance of 1.55 meters.
Haley Davies set a personal best in the mile run with a distance of 5:37.49.
Competition continues today with the weight throw opening the day at 9 a.m. The 4x400m relay is scheduled to close out the Vulcan Invitational at 5:45 p.m
