TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's track & field team heads to Birmingham, Ala., for the Vulcan Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex in its final tune up before the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Trojans are coming off a solid performance at the Middle Tennessee Invitational last weekend that saw a pair of victories and several personal bests.
“This is a very important meet for our program,” Troy head coach Jill Lancaster said. “It will be the largest and most competitive meet we have competed in this season and will be a great opportunity for us to make a statement going into the Sun Belt Championships in two weeks.”
Ja-Courtney Alexander turned in the fourth best time in the Sun Belt this season in the 200m dash last week when she won the event with a time of 25.17. The 4x400m relay team will look to build on the momentum of their first-place finish last weekend as they run against a field of 30 other teams this weekend.
Alexander also enters the meet this weekend with the Sun Belt's sixth best time in the 55m dash after crossing in 7.17 seconds last weekend.
Jasmine Patton posted the sixth-best 55m hurdles time in Troy history last week at Middle Tennessee with a time of 8.26 seconds, which also ranks her among the best in the Sun Belt this season.
Veronica Bryant jumped her way into the Sun Belt leaderboard in the high jump last week after turning in a personal best jump of 5-05.25 at the Middle Tennessee Invitational. Her jump is the fifth best mark in the league this season.
Nicole Studstill will be the first Troy field athlete to compete this weekend as the shot put opens competition at 4 p.m. on Friday, while Haley Davies will be the first on the track when she runs in the fourth prelim in the mile run.
Competition continues on Saturday with the weight throw opening the day at 9 a.m. The 4x400m relay is scheduled to close out the Vulcan Invitational at 5:45 p.m.
