Trojans Wrap Up Non-Conference Play at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – Non-conference play ends for the Troy men's basketball team (5-7, 0-2 Sun Belt) on Wednesday, with a rematch against Utah Valley (5-7, 0-0) at 8:05 p.m. in Orem, Utah. The Trojans were narrowly defeated by the Wolverines earlier in December at Trojan Arena, 86-82, in double overtime.

Troy snapped a five game skid on Saturday, defeating Georgia State 57-56. The Trojans led for most of the game, but needed a comeback effort, sparked by five points by Antoine Myers in the final minutes, to get the win. Ray Chambers scored a career-high 18 points, including the game-winning free-throw. The Panthers had an opportunity to take the win, with James Vincent missing two free-throws with 0.1 seconds to play.

Emil Jones has reclaimed the scoring lead for Troy, at 10.2 points per game. Jones also holds a narrow edge over Chambers for the team lead in rebounding, at 5.9 boards per game. The Trojans are controlling the ball extremely well, averaging just 10.3 turnovers per game, the eighth best average in the country.

Utah Valley enters the game after a narrow loss to rival Utah State, 69-63. Ben Aird leads the Wolverines in scoring, at 12.4 points per game, while Holton Hunsaker is close behind at 11.3 points per game.

The first meeting this season ended in heartbreak for the Trojans. Alfonzo Hubbard tied the score at the buzzer with a tip-in following a Hunsaker air-ball, sending the game into overtime. After an even first overtime, Utah Valley took control, eventually winning by four.

The Trojans are looking to even the all-time series against the Wolverines, after Utah Valley took the overall lead, 2-1, in the first match earlier this season. Troy is also looking to finish the non-conference schedule above .500 for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
