Troy Takes Unbeaten Road Record to Florida Atlantic

TROY, Ala. – Troy football head coach Larry Blakeney has taken his Trojans on the road three times in 2012 and all three times the visiting locker room saw a postgame celebration. The Trojans will look to make it four in a row on Saturday when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to take on Florida Atlantic in FAU Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. (CDT).
The Trojans are one of just 15 teams in the country to carry a 3-0 or better road record into this weekend's action and nine of those 15 teams will put their perfect mark on the line on Saturday. Troy's road success should come as no surprise as the Trojans are 19-8 since the 2005 season away from home in league games, which is by far the best record in the Sun Belt over that time period.
Quarterback Corey Robinson is expected to return for the Trojans after sitting out last week's 38-37 victory over FIU with a concussion. With Robinson on the sideline, the Trojans were faced with a situation that they hadn't encountered in 31 games – another quarterback starting a game.
Deon Anthony quickly put aside any fears as he accumulated 360 yards of total offense, accounted for all five of Troy's touchdowns in the game and posted the most rushing yards (115) by a Trojan quarterback since 1997.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl named Anthony the Manning Award Player of the Week after he beat out candidates such as USC's Matt Barkley, Georgia's Aaron Murray and Kanas State's Collin Klein.
The Trojans have won eight of the nine meetings with the Owls including the last four by a combined score of 155-52. This will be Troy's first visit to Florida Atlantic's new stadium, which opened last season.
On paper the Trojans hold all of the advantages heading into Saturday's contest, but as Blakeney and his players know none of that matters.
“Well we don't need to be stupid,” Blakeney said at his weekly press luncheon. “If you look at the tape and check these cats out, you can see they can win a game, they can beat us and they can beat anybody the play. We're 4-3, I don't know how you could look over anybody. We're trying to get bowl-eligible and to championship-caliber.”
The Trojans are averaging 28.0 points per game while the Owls are allowing 31.7 points per contest. On the flip side, Florida Atlantic has scored an average of 16.1 points per game this season while Troy is third in the Sun Belt allowing just 25.9 points per contest.
