Women's Golf Completes Fall Season at Blue Raider Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sofia Bjorkman claimed her fourth-consecutive top ten finish to lead the Troy women's golf team to an eighth place finish in Tuesday's final round of the Blue Raider Invitational at the Old Fort Golf Club.

The senior from Vanersborg, Sweden, opened the season with a tie for fourth at the Golfweek Program Challenge, before finishing tied for seventh and fourth, respectively, at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational and JU Courtyard Classic. Tuesday, she carded a four-over par, 76, to claim a tie for sixth at seven-over par; it was also her third time finishing as the top performer on the team.

Langley Vannoy saved her best round for last as she shot a three-over par, 75, in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 37th at 15-over with a 231.

Brooke Spinks was solid through the first 36 holes on Monday with a two round total of 154, but fell in the last round to an 84 to finish tied for 65th at 22-over with a 238.

Just a week after finishing second in a playoff at the JU Courtyard Classic, Taylor McGraw finished tied for 76th after carding a three round total of 242 at 26-over par.

Sara Fennvik recorded a 78 in the third round to allow her score to count after committing a rules violation in the Monday's second round; however, Fennvik's DQ doesn't result in an overall finish and the round was only counted toward the team score.

Southern Illinois' Cassie Rushing took top honors at the event after posting a one-over par, 217, while three Blue Raiders finished in the top four to claim the team title by 16 strokes over second place Morehead State.

The Blue Raider Invitational ends the fall season for the women's team before getting involved in a heavy spring schedule in 2013. The team will back in action on Feb. 25-26 to open the spring season at the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational in Mobile.
