Trojans Wrap Up Home Schedule With Huge Match

TROY, Ala. – With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Troy soccer team (6-9-2, 1-5-1) is looking to take a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Championships with its final home match of the season against Louisiana-Lafayette (7-9-1, 1-5-1) on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

The Trojans enter the match tied with the Ragin' Cajuns for the eighth and final spot in the upcoming Championships. Both teams will go on to face ULM (10th) and South Alabama (seventh) to close out the regular season, increasing the importance of the match.

Last weekend, the Trojans fell to top-seeded Middle Tennessee and picked up a draw at Western Kentucky. Troy took an early lead against Middle, with Jasmine Fahrnbauer blasting in a shot from long range, but couldn't hold on, losing 3-1. On Sunday, the Trojans got on top in the fifth minute, as Chanel Elgin scored her first goal of the season. They conceded a penalty kick early in the second half, and held on for the 1-1 tie.

Chelsey Williams and Cecilia Thorngren are currently tied for the team lead with 17 points on the season. Thorngren's nine assists are the most in the Sun Belt, while Williams' seven goals are the sixth most on the conference.

Louisiana-Lafayette enters the match having dropped three straight, including a pair of 2-1 games at FIU and Florida Atlantic last weekend. Hayden Gibson leads the Ragin' Cajuns with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Elizabeth Manuel and Shelby Isley are right behind her, with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Troy will face ULM on Sunday in Monroe, La. before traveling to Mobile, Ala. to face South Alabama on October 26 to close out the regular season.
