BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Chanel Elgin scored her first goal of the season in the fifth minute to help lead the Trojans to a 1-1 tie at Western Kentucky (10-4-2, 5-1-2). Troy (6-9-2) moves to 1-5-1 in Sun Belt play and is currently tied with Louisiana-Lafayette for the eighth and final playoff spot with just three games remaining.
“This was a hard-earned result,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We fought through a lot today.”
The Trojans waited no time at all to get on the board, scoring in the fifth minute. Elgin's first attempt was blocked, but she was able to get it back following a tremendous individual effort and capitalize for her first goal as a Trojan.
Ali Stahlke leveled the score in the 51st minute, finishing from the penalty spot for her second of the season.
The first overtime period belonged to Troy, with the Trojans firing four shots on goal over a two minute span.
Goaltender Katie Comeno-Lewis was solid in net, making eight saves on the day.
The Trojans return to action on Thursday for their final home match of the season, hosting Louisiana-Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex.
