Trojans Set Multiple PR's at the season opener Blue Raider Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Troy track & field team opened the 2012 season with multiple personal bests set at the Blue Raider Invitational on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.
Junior Brynn Forsythe set a personal best in the women's weight throw placing fourth with a distance of 15.83 meters. Senior Breanna Sanner set a personal best in the women's triple jump with a distance of 11.03 meters. Sophomore Adria Hill had a personal best in the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 26.10 seconds and the women's 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.66 seconds. Junior Veronica Bryant set a personal best in the women's 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.02 seconds.
“We really had a nice meet and competed well for our season opener,” head coach Jill Lancaster said.
Freshmen Hayley Watts and Taylor Pullen finished third and fourth, respectively, in the women's pole vault. Watts had a distance of 3.05 meters, and Pullen had a distance of 2.74 meters. Karen Wyatt, sophomore, and Nicole Studstill, junior, finished seventh and eighth respectively in the women's weight throw. Wyatt threw for a distance of 14.94 meters, and Studstill threw for a distance of 14.84 meters.
“Our freshmen really stepped up and performed today,” said Lancaster. “Many of them had never performed in an indoor meet before.”
In the women's 1800 meter run, junior Ja-Courtney Alexander finished sixth with a time of 2:22.76. Junior Candice Vaugn placed fourth in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.10. Junior Jasmine Patton and Hill finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the women's 55 meter hurdles. Patton had a time of 8.62 seconds, and Hill had a time of 8.66 seconds. Freshman Mychea Williams finished third in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.21 seconds.
In the women's 4x400 yard relay, the Trojans finished second with a time of 4:04.74. Alexander started the race; Ariel Cavasos, senior, was the second leg; Veronica Bryant, junior, was the third leg; and Vaugn finished for the Trojans.
“We got to see some of our competition for the season,” said Lancaster. “I feel like today was a great starting point for our season.”
Wednesday the Trojans will be in action again as they head to Birmingham for combined events.
