Troy soccer loses on the road breaking a five game unbeaten streak.
Miami, Fla. – The Troy soccer team fell to Florida International 3-0 on Friday. The loss is the Trojans first conference defeat of the season and snaps a five game unbeaten streak.
After a weather delay to start the match Troy (7-4-1; 2-1) fell behind FIU (6-5; 3-0) early in the 6' when Golden Panther forward Chelsea Leiva netted a pass from midfielder Nicole DiPerna to score the eventual game winning goal.
FIU answered yet again in the 35' with a goal by Deana Rossi. The goal sent the Golden Panthers into the half leading the Trojans 2-0.
Troy still failed to find their rhythm in the second half, only recording two shots. FIU would go onto record one more goal in the 87' by April Perry to secure their 3-0 victory over the Trojans.
“We never really settled down and played our game today,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “Hats off to FIU, they broke us down and scored two quality goals in the first half and we could never find our way back. We need to shift our focus to Sunday and recover.”
Troy now prepares to head to Boca Raton, Florida to take on FAU. The Trojans defeated the Owls for the first time in program history last season 2-1. They will look to do so again on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 12 pm.
