TROY, Ala. - Troy soccer will take their successful 2011 season into Sun Belt Conference play against ULM on the Trojans' home pitch on Friday afternoon.
It will be the first Sun Belt match of the season for both the Trojans and Warhawks, who are tied 3-3 in their all-time series in soccer. Troy knocked off ULM 1-0 last season on the way to finish third in the conference. ULM ended the 2010 season ranked 12th in the Sun Belt.
“The Sun Belt is a tough conference and anyone can beat anyone on a given day,” Trojans head coach Chris Bentley said. “ULM is certainly a team that can't be taken lightly.”
Troy (5-3-1) enters conference play riding a three-game unbeaten streak which includes a draw with Mississippi State and an exciting come-from-behind win against Jacksonville State.
“Training and games leading up to this point has been massive for our development,” Bentley said. “The girls have steadily improved in all aspects of the game, which will help us heading into conference. We hope to keep improving throughout conference play as well.”
ULM (5-3-1) comes into the meeting on a two-game win streak that includes a 6-0 win over Grambling and a 2-1 overtime victory against Mississippi Valley State.
“We are going to take things one step at a time,” Bentley said. “We know we can compete with anyone when our focus and effort is there.”
The Sun Belt season kicks off on Friday with the Trojans taking on the Warhawks at 3 p.m. inside the Troy Soccer Complex. The game can be viewed on TroyTrojans.com via Trojans All-Access.
