2011-12 Schedule
TROY, Ala. – Troy University head men's basketball coach Don Maestri has release the team's 2011-12 schedule, including nine games against 2011 postseason teams.
“Our out of conference schedule is again very challenging,” Maestri said. “We've got three NCAA Tournament teams in UAB, Belmont and UTSA and those are three conference champions that are going to be tough to beat. We play at an SEC school and Big XII school and those will be tough games as well.”
As it has been for a few years now, the Trojans will get things started with an exhibition game against West Alabama at Sartain Hall. That contest is set for Monday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m.
Troy will open its regular season on the road at Texas Tech on Friday, November 11 before coming back home for a match-up with LaGrange on Sunday, November 13 at 4:00 p.m.
The Trojans will then hit the road for three straight contests, including their first two against postseason teams from a year ago. Troy will first take on East Tennessee State, a participant in last season College Insider Tournament. After that, Troy travels to UAB to face the Blazers who went dancing in the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
The road trip finishes with Southern Utah the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Troy then returns home for two more contests against postseason teams as East Tennessee State visits Sartain Hall on Tuesday, November 29 and College Basketball Invitational participant Miami (Ohio) visits on Saturday, December 3.
The Trojans will then travel to Mississippi State on Saturday, December 10 for a game that is set to televise on FSN at 1:00 p.m. The Trojans close the road swing at 2011 NCAA Tournament participant Belmont before coming home for their final two non-conference games.
On Monday, December 19, the Trojans will welcome Southern Utah to Troy for a rematch of the season's earlier contest. The final non-conference game will bring UTSA, a team that won an NCAA Tournament game a year ago to Sartain Hall. That game is set to tip off at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22.
The Trojans will open Sun Belt play on the road as they travel to Denver and then to North Texas for a New Year's Eve contest. The first home Sun Belt game of the season will see Middle Tennessee visit Troy on Thursday, January 5 at 7:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
“Our Sun Belt schedule is always tough,” Maestri said. “From recruiting standpoint, it looks like the whole league has gone out and signed some good classes this year and it's going to be a well balanced conference yet again.”
“Like most good conferences, on any night, if you go out and don't play your best, you're going to come home unhappy.”
The Trojans will also host the rest of the East Division, as well as ULM, Louisiana-Lafayette and UALR from the West Division. Florida Atlantic, the reigning Sun Belt Regular Season Champions will visit Sartain Hall on Thursday, January 19 as an NIT participant from a season ago.
Senior Night will take place on Saturday, February 18 when reigning Sun Belt Champion UALR visits Sartain Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Troy closes the regular season with road games at FIU and Florida Atlantic before traveling to Hot Springs, Ark., for the Sun Belt Conference Championships from March 3-5.
