The Trojan soccer team picks up their first home win of the season.
2011 TROJAN CLASSIC
TROY, Ala. – The Troy (2-2) soccer team gained their first home victory of the season in the Trojan Classic tournament against Nicholls State (1-2-1) on Friday.
The Trojan attack came out strong against the Colonels early in the match. However it would take until the second half for the Trojans to get a goal on the board.
The goal came off of a header by freshman Alissa Jones on a corner kick by Nikki Stamaris. The Goal is Jones' third of the season in only four games.
“The effort was much better today and it showed in our play,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We felt we had the run of play, but just lacked quality in the final third. Nicholls State made us work for everything.”
The win breaks a two game losing streak for the Trojans and will send them into the final day of the tournament with momentum.
“We need to bring the same energy to the field Sunday,” Bentley said.
The Trojans take on Alcorn State in the final game of the Trojan Classic at 3 pm on Sunday.
The match immediately follows South Alabama v. Nicholls State.
