Whitley selected to the Arizona Fall League

Another former Trojan has been selected to play in the 2011 Arizona Fall League.

Former Troy third baseman and reliever Chase Whitley has been selected to play in the Arizona Fall League during the 2011 offseason.

Whitley will spend the offseason in the Arizona Fall League playing for the Pheonix Desert Dogs.

The Ranburne, Ala. native, spent the 2011 season in the New York Yankees farm system with the Class A Tampa Yankees and Class AA Trenton Thunder.

Whitley posted a combined record of 3-5 with seven saves in 91.0 innings of work on the mound and will be one of seven Yankees prospects to play in the Arizona Fall League during the 2011 offseason.

At Troy, Whitley was a two-way player, playing third base and also serving as the closer for the Trojans bullpen.

In 2010, Whitley led the Trojans in hitting with a .364 average, 10 home runs, and 56 RBI, while going 7-3 with seven saves in 32 appearances out of the bullpen. In 61.0 innings on the mound, opponent's batting average against Whitley was .211.

Whitley's performance during the 2010 season, earned him a selection to the First Team All-Sun Belt Team as a Utility player, as well as Second Team All-Sun Belt as a designated hitter.

After the 2010 season, the Yankees selected Whitley in the 15^th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Whitley joins former All-American Clint Robinson in the Arizona Fall League.

Robinson, a Kansas City Royals prospect, will play for the Surprise Saguaros.

Both, Whitley and Robinson will begin play in the Arizona Fall League on October 4.
