Complete Sun Belt Release
NEW ORLEANS, La. – After breaking a school record and earning her second straight All-Tournament accolade, Troy sophomore libero Courtney Cohen has been named the Sun Belt's Defensive Player of the Week.
“Courtney has played very well and I couldn't be more proud,” said head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. “She has stepped up and been a huge part of our success. I look forward to her continuing to better our defense as the season goes on.”
Cohen, who leads the league at 5.26 digs/set, started her week off in fine fashion last Tuesday as the Trojans dropped Georgia State in five-sets. Cohen, posted 35 digs in the win, breaking her own school record which she set last season in another win over Georgia State.
Only twice since Troy moved to Division I has a player posted 30 or more digs in a match, and both performances belong to Cohen. The Etowah, Ga., native followed up the record-setting performance by grabbing All-Tournament honors at the Owls Classic in Troy's 1-2 effort.
Cohen recorded 63 digs in the Trojans' three matches, giving her a total of 98 for the week.
Since recording six digs in Troy's season opener, Cohen has posted at least 15 digs in every match. Troy is 7-3 in that 10-game stretch.
Cohen and Trojans return home on Tuesday when they take on Alabama A&M at Sartain Hall at 7:00 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information on the match-up.
