Trojans Give Steady Performance On Day Two of Program Challenge

The Troy University men's golf team bounced back on Monday with a three-under par round of 285 in the second round of the Golfweek Program Challenge at the True Blue Plantation Course in Pawley's Island, SC.
The Trojans go into Tuesday's final round of play tied for eighth with an overall even par score of 576.
All five members of the Troy squad posted scores of even par or one-under par in Tuesday's second round.
“The guys showed some improvement today,” Troy coach Matt Terry said. “They are really close to playing very well. There are some teams that are playing very well, and we are not far from being right there with them.”
Senior Ricky Casko followed his three-under par opening round, which included four birdies, and a three birdie, three bogey performance on Monday. His three-under par total (141) for the two rounds has him tied for 15th place overall, eight shots behind the tournament leader.
Freshman Tolver Dozier found his birdie stroke on Monday and finished at one-under par for the round, moving him to one-over par for the tournament. His two-day score of 145 leaves him tied for 26th going into the final round on Tuesday.
Sophomores Kyle Thommessen and Will Thompson also posted one-under par rounds on Monday to move to one-over for the tournament and are both also tied for 26th.
Freshman Jake Tucker bounced back from an opening 75 with an even-par 72 on Monday and is tied for 46th overall with a two day score of 147.
Jacksonville State and Campbell are tied for the overall team lead in the competition with two-day totals of 21-under par 555. The Gamecocks' Tomasz Anderson is one-shot off the individual lead with a 10-under par score of 134. Andrew Gai of Campbell followed an opening round score of 64 with a second round 69 to hold the individual lead at 11-under par.
South Florida (-19) is two shots off the team lead in third followed by East Carolina (-15), and UNC Wilmington (-9). Central Arkansas (-6) and Texas State (-4) are within reach of the Trojans going into the final round. Troy is tied with Missouri-Kansas City and Boston College at even par with James Madison (+7) and Northern Iowa (+12) rounding out the field.
The Trojans will open play on Tuesday on the back nine and will play the final round with Texas State and UMKC.
East Carolina leads the overall standings in the Program Challenge with a combined score of three-under par. The Pirates are just one shot in front of Campbell. The Trojans enter the final day of play in eighth place in the combined standings.
