The Trojans defeated Presbyterian College in Port City Classic 3-1.
Mobile, Ala. – Troy (4-3) soccer rallied in the second half to beat the Presbyterian College (0-6) Blue Hose 3-1 on Sunday in the Port City Classic tournament in Mobile, Alabama.
The Trojans struggled early on in the match giving up only their second first half goal in the 23'. The Blue Hose struck first with Christy Schofer finding the goal off a cornerkick by Stephanie Allen. Despite outshooting the Blue Hose 6-5 in the first half, the Trojans went into half time trailing 1-0.
The Trojans came out in the second half ready to turn the game around. Midfielder Alissa Jones netted the game tying goal in the 63' on a free-kick from Sydney Eppler. The goal would be Jones' fifth of her first season as a Trojan.
Troy would continue their aggressive attack with Paige McMillan scoring the game-winning goal in the 85' on a chip pass to the far post of the opposing goal by Alissa Jones.
The Trojans would find the goal once more with Ruth Sutcliffe scoring in the 88' on a rebound off of the opposing goal's crossbar.
The Trojans would go on to outshoot the Blue hose in the second half 14-5.
“We put in a solid team effort today,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We had most of the run of play and showed a lot of resiliency after getting down in the first half. We have a great foundation to work off of for next week.”
Troy will have five days to recover before heading to Starkville, Mississippi to take on SEC opponent Mississippi State. The Trojans will kick off against the Bulldogs on Friday at 7 pm.
