Volleyball Set for Home Opener

TROY, Ala. – After completing opening weekend at the Samford/UAB Invitational, the Troy University volleyball team with host its home opener on Tuesday night. The Trojans welcome Alabama State to Sartain Hall with a 7:00 p.m. first serve set.

“We're always excited about playing at home,” head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. “And a home opener always has a special fell. We just need all of our fans to come out and support us.”
The Trojans started their season at the Samford/UAB Invitational last weekend, posting a 1-2 mark. The Trojans fell to Samford in straight sets on Friday morning before falling to UNC Asheville in five-sets on Friday evening.
Troy would bounce back and sweep Akron on Saturday afternoon to salvage a victory.
Alexandra Alexander, in her first action as the Trojans' setter posted 119 assists over the opening weekend. Her 10.82 assists per set average places her second in the Sun Belt after the opening weekend.
Devin Von Pingel was the Trojans most consistent offensive threat last weekend as she posted a .429 attack percentage over the three matches, the second highest mark in the league. True freshman Kayla Pickart led the squad with a 3.18 kills per set average on the weekend.
Defensively, Courtney Cohen led the squad with a 4.82 digs per set average and 53 total digs.

Series History: Troy leads 24-0
The Hornets competed at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa, Ala., last weekend, dropping all three of their matches. ASU fell to Alabama in their season opener before falling to Texas State and Austin Peay to close out the weekend.
Freshman Maya Bell led the team with 40 kills on the weekend for a 4.00 kills per set average. Roselande Corneille led the Hornets with 29 digs on the weekend.
The Trojans have posted a 24-0 record against Alabama State since joining Division I in 1993.
