Rolando Vargas was named NAIA Women's National Coach of the Year
MOBILE, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) - A former Troy University men's tennis player was awarded for his excellence, not as a player but as a coach, this weekend after leading his team to the NAIA National Championship.
Former player, Rolando Vargas, was awarded the NAIA National Women's Tennis Coach of the Year award following a victory by Auburn University Montgomery in the national championship match. The victory helped AUM win their 11th NAIA national championship and first for Vargas, in his first year.
The Lady Senators finished the 2011 campaign with a 27-5 record, including their final 13 matches. AUM has now won seven of the last eight NAIA women's tennis championships and nine since the team format began in 2000.
