Ranked 22nd in this week's Baseball America poll, the Sun Belt-leading Troy Trojans take on Florida Atlantic in a three-game conference set this weekend beginning on Friday.
Troy (30-11, 14-4) swept Western Kentucky at Riddle-Pace Field last weekend to drop the Toppers out of second place. Florida Atlantic took advantage and moved into second place, three games behind the Trojans.
On Tuesday, the Trojans fell 4-3 to UAB in Birmingham on last at-bat play, but the Trojans have won 4-of-5. Troy opened up a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, but allowed the Blazers to tie the game in the eighth and ultimately defeat the Trojans in the ninth.
Florida Atlantic (24-16, 11-7) leads the all-time series 22-14, including 11-4 in games played in Boca Raton. Troy trails 10-12 since head coach Bobby Pierce took over in 2003.
Adam Bryant has been successful in 11 of his last 22 at-bats, and he leads the Trojans in doubles (18), RBI (40) and home runs (4). The Owls are led offensively by Nick Delguidice with 16 doubles and 29 RBI.
Bryant needs just nine hits this weekend to pass former Trojan Clint Robinson for the most hits in Troy history. Robinson recorded 253 in this Troy career. Bryant can also take over the team record for runs with nine more, again passing Robinson (168).
Tyler Ray (9-0, 1.47 ERA) and his nation-leading win total take the mound for the Trojans on Friday night. Troy has won all 10 of Ray's starts this season. He will match-up against FAU starter Ryan Garton (3-2, 4.17 ERA).
Ray's next win will tie him with former Trojan Donnie Elsbery (1976-79) for the second-most wins in program history with 25.
Troy follows with Ryan Sorce (5-3, 3.08 ERA) on Saturday and freshman Jimmy Hodgskin (2-3, 3.67 ERA) on Sunday. The Owls will throw Paul Davis (7-1, 2.43 ERA) on Saturday and R.J. Alvarez (5-3, 4.50 ERA) in the third and final game of the set.
Friday's first pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. central time, while Saturday begins at 3 p.m. and the finale on Sunday set for 12 p.m.
Barry McKnight will bring you all the series action from the diamond on the Troy Sports Network from IMG College beginning 15 minutes before first pitch online and on 94.7 WTBF-FM in Troy and Brundidge.
